Andrew Sloan

For 17 years, I’ve been a Coop shopper - not just for convenience, but because I believe in what it stands for. The Coop is more than just a store; it’s a part of island life, a business owned by and run for its members. I’m standing for election to help ensure it continues to thrive, delivering real value for our community.

Like many, I became my household’s designated shopper during Covid - and I’ve kept the role ever since. I know firsthand how much the cost of living has risen in recent years. That’s why I believe the Coop’s role in keeping prices fair and supporting islanders has never been more important.

About Me
I’ve called Guernsey home since 2008. It’s where my wife and I chose to build our lives, where both our children were born, and where we’ve put down deep roots. I may not have grown up here, but this island has given my family so much - friends, opportunities, and a real sense of belonging. I want to give back.

Professionally, I started out as an economist for the States of Guernsey, working to support our local economy. I later became a Director at the Guernsey Financial Services Commission and Deputy Chief Executive, Strategy, at Guernsey Finance. In recent years, I’ve built a successful career in the finance sector, serving on the boards of several firms and focusing on governance, risk, and financial planning.

But my passion lies in public service and supporting our community. Over the years, I’ve been involved in a wide range of local organisations, including:
• Committee Member for Ageing Well in the Bailiwick – supporting our older generation
• Safeguarding Officer of a youth sports club – ensuring young people in our community are supported
• Chair of a junior school PTA – helping improve local education
And I recently joined the Board of the Guernsey Arts Commission – supporting creativity and culture on the island.

Many also know me for my work in sustainable finance. I was responsible for establishing most of Guernsey’s sustainability initiatives and have worked to position the island as a leader in responsible business. I’ve even served as an expert reviewer for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), but my real focus has always been on making a difference here, at home.

What I Can Bring to the Coop
The Coop isn’t just another retailer - it’s an essential part of island life. It supports our economy, our environment, and our people. To keep it strong, the Board needs directors with expertise in finance, sustainability, governance, and risk. That’s where I believe I can help:

• Financial expertise – I’ve spent years advising businesses and governments on finance, risk, and strategy.
• Sustainability leadership – I’ve helped businesses reduce their environmental impact and operate responsibly.
• Governance and accountability – I’ve worked as both a regulator and a business leader and understand what good governance looks like.
• A deep commitment to Guernsey – I care about this island, its people, and making sure the Coop remains a trusted part of our community.

My Priorities for the Coop
If elected, I would focus on:

• Keeping the Coop financially strong, ensuring it remains resilient and member-focused.
• Delivering real value for members, making sure shopping at the Coop stays affordable and rewarding.
• Ensuring members’ voices are heard, so the Coop continues to reflect the needs of the community.
• Leading on sustainability, keeping the Coop at the forefront of responsible business.
• Supporting strong governance and risk management, helping the Coop navigate future challenges.

Guernsey is a special place - it’s more than just where we live; it’s home. And the Coop is a vital part of that. I want to make sure it continues to serve islanders for generations to come.

I would be honoured to bring my experience, my passion, and my commitment to the Board - and I would truly appreciate your support.
