Job Role

We are looking for a Senior Commercial Analyst to join our team.

Role Purpose:

The Commercial Analyst will play a pivotal role in supporting the commercial team and delivering insightful and actionable data to support the commercial strategic plan of the Society. This role involves collaborating closely with Commercial Managers to define budgets, set targets, and analyse commercial performance. The analyst will be responsible for end-to-end analysis, including data gathering, validation, and delivering insights to drive improvements. Additionally, the analyst will support the Category and Local team with analysis on planogram changes and range events pre and post-implementation, as well as supporting price and promotion analysis. This ensures that all commercial financial outcomes align with the Society’s vision and mission. Strong communication, analytical skills, and a strategic mindset are essential for success in this role.

Main Areas of Responsibility:

1) Support the Society's retail business objectives and 5-year strategy by preparing financial targets and performing agreed analysis.
2) Provide insightful and actionable data through reporting, analysis, and experimentation to establish best practices and support decision-making processes.
3) Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, assisting Commercial Managers by defining budgets, setting targets, analysing performance, and recommending growth opportunities.
4) Develop a deep understanding of the product space, including Commercial Managers' visions, roadmaps, and external factors affecting retail.
5) Manage the entire analytical process from start to finish, including gathering requirements, defining success metrics, identifying data sources with the support of the data team, delivering insights, and ensuring implementation of recommendations.
6) Improve efficiency through the identification and implementation of processes to standardise, simplify, and automate.
7) Utilise data to identify trends, opportunities, and answer business questions by formulating and communicating results using appropriate visualisation methods.
8) Understand and convey the commercial impact of recommendations by making data-based decisions, particularly in environments requiring quick trade-offs.
9) Perform bespoke analyses as needed to drive improvements within the business area.
10) Communicate analytical findings effectively using storytelling techniques to convey both performance insights and projections.
11) Conduct pre- and post-implementation analysis on planogram changes and range events to support the Category and Local team.
12) Assist with data analytics and forecasting for Price, Promotions, and ordering activities.
13) Collaborate with commercial teams across Food stores and Pharmacy to align with sales and margin goals.
14) Monitor the marketplace, competitors, and trends to develop competitive strategies.
15) Integrate customer perspective into analyses to ensure timely and customer-focused analysis consistent with the 5-year plan.
16) Manage sales and margin budgeting to ensure profitability by adhering to budget and margin targets.
17) Provide short-term and long-term financial reviews for all departments and categories.
18) Contribute to the annual range review process and evaluate the effectiveness of commercial plans.
