Job Role

We're looking for a Community & Sustainability Officer to join our team.

Role Purpose: To assist in delivering a sustainability strategy and community activity plan that benefits people, planet and the local community. The role will involve working collaboratively with all stakeholders and the wider local community by committing to a high standard of social and environmental practices, whilst ensuring we engage, measure, and communicate on what matters.

The successful candidate will:

  • Assist in driving an engaging calendar of community activity, partnering with marketing and Coop Colleagues to help communicate and drive awareness and engagement.
  • Support the delivery and reporting of the Society’s key sustainability and community initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and the wider Co-operative movement in the development and delivery of co-ordinated UK Co-operative initiatives i.e., Fairtrade.
  • Help drive and reinforce the culture of belonging, the Society values, and the principles of being a Co-operative business.
  • Work in collaboration with suppliers and organisations to encourage opportunities for education and cooperation within the local community.
  • Oversee the administration of the Society’s Community Fund, sponsorship, awareness days and charity donations to ensure a fair and consistent approach that benefits the local community.
  • Support and assist in building external relationships with businesses, charities, and community groups.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to provide community and sustainability content for the Society’s communication platforms i.e., social media pages.
  • Actively participate and encourage attendance at CSR activities and including overseeing our internal colleague volunteering program.
  • Be proactive in seeking out opportunities for community events and initiatives that support the strategy.
  • Responsible for legal and business compliance and maintaining due diligence in Health & Safety.
  • Assist with other Society duties as and when required.

 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Broad understanding of the Co-operative business model and the broader Co-operative movement
  • Passion and enthusiasm to help make a positive difference to the local community
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft products
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and autonomously
  • Organised and good attention to detail
  • Ability to proofread written materials
  • Ability to plan and administer projects to deadlines and within budget
