Supporting the aging population
They're the glue that hold our communities together, so our aging population deserves respect and support. We love lending a helping hand to projects that support the older generations, so take a look at how some of our community fund money has been spent.
Autumn 2023
Age concern group
Held each Wednesday for the elderly from 2 to 4pm with 40+ members plus volunteers. It enables members who would otherwise be on their own at home to enjoy an afternoon of fun with various board games and card games or just have a social chat with friend. To buy refreshments and little extras for our weekly gatherings.

Methodist Homes for the Aged (Gsy) Limited
The wooden gazebos and benches are showing signs of weathering and rot and need replacing the gardens provide the residents with an opportunity to benefit from the peace and fresh air and help to calm their troubled minds. Funding will cover an arbour, benches, and wooden handrails.

Guernsey Voluntary Service LGB
During Christmas party week we provide little extras such as Christmas crackers at lunchtime, a glass of wine and other festive treats during the week. We have 75 clients that are registered to attend the JSC each week. They receive a 3-course lunch, refreshments, and transport. We also invite the days volunteers to join the clients for lunch. Funding would cover the lunches

Health Connections LBG
Community Transport Service: Our transport service takes isolated people with unmet transport needs to their essential appointments and activities. This funding will help towards 40 first aid kits for their fleet of cars.

St Peter's Church, St. Pierre du Bois
Monthly Lunch Club (for Seniors): We host a cooked two course nutritious meal for around 20 people most of whom are at least 75 years old. The focus is to reduce social isolation, increase social connectedness and provide a safe and predicable place for more vulnerable in the community.

Le Marchant Ward
Day Room Facilities: The grant will help further equip our current dayroom with a hot drinks machine for relatives and patients and also especially adaptive chairs so patients who cannot sit in normal chairs can also enjoy the facilities of the day room.

Spring 2022
Guernsey Voluntary Service
Day Centre Music Therapy. Music therapy reduces anxiety and physical effects of stress reduces depression and other symptoms in the elderly. Funding will go towards the cost of the weekly sessions throughout the year.

Russels Day Centre
Bridging the gap art competition. Socially isolated older adults and pupils of St Martins Primary school will work together to make portraits of Queen Elizabeth prior to her Platinum Jubilee, the plan is to award prizes for category winners and to display all entries Funds will go towards art materials and prizes

Health Connections LBG
Talking Café. The Talking Café project enables local cafés to host one of our Community Connector volunteers who can encourage isolated, frail and elderly people in the community to meet new people, make new friends and get connected to support on our online directory when they visit the café. The funds will enable the charity to buy tablets and portable printers for the Community Connectors

The Monnaie Fellowship Trust LBG
The Jeanne Groves Wheelchair Walkway. Our proposal is to construct a one metre wide, wheelchair-friendly walkway along the north and west sides of our field which is adjacent to the Monnaie Chapel.

Guernsey Senior Citizens Association
Social Activity. Provide monthly meetings for 42 elderly members and two lunches at local hotels. Other activities are encouraged such as board games and bingo. Funds will go towards a free summer lunch to members and a Christmas tea party.

Roustel Ward, Princess Elizabeth Hospital
Roustel ward is one of the continuing care wards at the hospital. Funds will help staff purchase crockery to be used in a new cafe within the ward community, supporting residents and their visitors.

Rosaire Community Association
Rosiare Community Chorus – a community choir for people over 55. Funds will be spent on a choir facilitator for 40 weeks.
