Job Role

We are looking for a Head of Price, Promotions and Ordering to join our team based in either Jersey or Guernsey.

To play a critical role in the senior team of the Society’s Food business, contributing to the strategic direction of the Division to deliver all financial targets assigned, working in accordance with policies, goals, and objectives established by the Chief Executive Officer, ELT and the Board of Directors. Specifically responsible for Pricing, Promotions and Ordering for the Food Division. To develop, execute and monitor appropriate strategies and business plans for these areas to maximise product availability, sales, margin and profitability. Providing strong leadership and working closely with all departments to optimise growth and profitability. For example: To work closely with the Society’s Marketing Department to deliver a strategic marketing plan regarding value and promotional offers. To work closely with Society’s Category & Operations departments to optimise in store execution & customer experience.

MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Direct accountability for the following areas:

1. Pricing

o Responsible for developing, implementing & reviewing all aspects of the Society’s Pricing & Value strategy.

o Always acting to protect and develop the Society’s reputation for value while meeting the Society’s financial targets in accordance with broader Society values & objectives.

o Set product level pricing, analyse impact of pricing decisions on Society P&L, monitor Society’s price position vs agreed benchmarks, establish & monitor principles & processes to respond to changes in product cost prices, ensure robust Price Pack Architecture across different product formats & families.

2. Promotions

o Responsible for the Society’s promotional offer, optimising promotional range, pricing, displays & events to maximise volume, sales & margin as well as supplier promotional income.

o Analyse promotional performance and effectiveness vs internal KPIs & market performance to ensure all plans are continually improved and optimised.

o Ensure all promotional funding is claimed and reported accurately and in full.

o Develop new opportunities to drive incremental volume while promoting Society’s Member benefits & value perception.

3. Ordering

o Responsible for measuring & improving On Shelf Availability across all stores by owning & developing key processes for central & store ordering, stock management, forecasting and allocations.

o Responsible for Seasonal event analysis, forecasting & allocations.

4. Category

o Responsible for all aspects of Category management for the Beers, Wines & Spirits and Tobacco departments.

5. VME

o Project lead for VME transformation program for Trading function.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

1. Strong level of business and financial acumen and proven track record of developing business strategy and delivering results.

2. Experience of operating at a commercially focused strategic level.

3. Strong understanding and experience of Pricing, Promotional & merchandising principles & strategies within FMCG retail environment.

4. Ability to measure and understand performance, identify actionable insights and trends from internal & external data, to formulate and deliver plans to meet business objectives.

5. Demonstrates high personal credibility (acts with integrity, delivers commitments, confronts appropriately, listens, and focuses on transforming problems into opportunities, personally confident        with different hierarchical levels; positive and consistent)

6. Influences in an authentic way to drive engagement.

7. Experience in coaching a diverse team of professionals.

8. Strong experience of project management.

9. Broad understanding of the business and the broader co-operative movement.
