Training Jersey's rescue dogs with Helping Hands
The Jersey Search and Rescue K9 unit is a search team with a difference. When required, these four-legged professionals and their handlers will provide much-needed support to the emergency services. In 2018 the group was one of the recipients of our Helping Hands fund.
The K9 rescue unit deploys specialist search dogs (who receive different training to police dogs) in searches for missing, vulnerable people.
Like every specialist job, the dogs and their handlers need to be qualified.
That’s where our Helping Hands fund came in. Jersey Search and Rescue applied for a helping hand in 2018 to help train six of their search dogs.
Watch this video to meet Michelle, one of the handlers, and some of the dogs being trained, and to find out all about how the funding impacted the team.
If you have a project that would benefit from a helping hand, our 2019 fund is open for applications until 11 February 2019.
