Bringing your loved one into our care

Bringing your loved one into our care

No matter when or what time of day, Argent's Funeral Care are here for you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

It's hard to know where to begin or what you need to do first. But with care, respect and sensitivity, we can help you, advise and support you through each step of the way.

Visiting the deceased

The decision of whether or not anyone is to visit the deceased is a personal one.

Many people take comfort from seeing the deceased at rest and private remembrance rooms are available at our funeral homes, or you may wish to have the deceased at your own home.

We can help you too to advise on how best to let people know about the death.

If someone dies abroad

When someone dies overseas, the stress of bereavement can be heightened by dealing with an unfamiliar system from home.

You can either have the funeral where the death happened or arrange for the body to be returned to Guernsey. This is known as repatriation. Alternatively, you can transport ashes back to the island.

UK / international funeral directors will need to be involved. You can choose to contact these yourself or through local funeral directors who can undertake all the arrangements on your behalf. For further local advice call us on 01481 233155.

However, you can get help from the British authorities.

Contact the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (020 7008 1500, 24 hours). They will be able to advise you and assist with arrangements. The nearest British Embassy, High Commission or Consulate should be advised.

All deaths must be registered in the country where the person died. The British Consul will advise you on how to do this.
